I was wondering where I could a version of the 2016g.tar.gz file that works with the Oracle Java Timezone Updated Tool. I need to test this tool by using the file:// protocol.

OP just reported that TZupdater breaks on latest release, as version moved from makefile VERSION= definition into new file version, which is not yet distributed in the data tarball: http://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz/2016-September/024218.html You may want to warn your support, developers, and clients. -- Take care.
