All, Is https://github.com/eggert/tz/blob/master/tzfile.5 the normative reference for the binary format of tzdata? I thinking about writing an I-D to register application/tzfile as a MIME type for use with TZDist <https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7808> and I obviously need a reference to the file format. Or should I document the format in the draft? Does anyone want to suggest a different name for the format? -- Kenneth Murchison Cyrus Development Team FastMail Pty Ltd

That's the development version, yes. The latest released version is here: ftp://ftp.iana.org/tz/tzdb/tzfile.5 (Unfortunately it's not available via https: directly, though we'd like to fix that.)

Presumably somebody (you? perhaps with my help?) would need to document the format in IETF-ese. application/tzfile sounds good to me.

The whole repository is actually available at https://www.iana.org/time-zones/repository/ it just does not have any auto-indexing to provide a file listing. You can access that specific file directly at: https://www.iana.org/time-zones/repository/code/tzfile.5 kim
