Hi Ado, as i wrote at the beginning of the time_t discussion, ctime, asctime, etc is obsolet today. the question is only how far are you willing to go ? drop the meaning of a 24h day to include mars-days (or Jupiter-days) ? Or stay on earth and extend struct tm with a tz_offset, and a tz_name ? to make official what is already custom. regards, walter - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Original Message - - - - - - - - - - - - - - From: "Olson, Arthur David (NIH/NCI)" <olsona@dc37a.nci.nih.gov> Subject: Duplicated effort Date: 10/11/04 21:19 I'm thinking that a way to reduce the amount of coding to take care of wide-ranging tm_year values is to have asctime rely on strftime to get a correct year string. Can anyone else think of problems with this approach? --ado
