FW: Chile - Daylight Saving Time extension in 2011
I'm forwarding this message from Pablo Jiménez, who is not on the time zone mailing list. Those of you who are on the list, please direct replies appropriately. (I've already let Pablo know that references and proposed changes have been received from others.) --ado -----Original Message----- From: Pablo Jiménez [mailto:pablo.jimenez@vtr.cl] Sent: Monday, March 28, 2011 10:23 To: Olson, Arthur David (NIH/NCI) [E] Cc: Cristian Gonzalez Fluxa Subject: Re: Chile - Daylight Saving Time extension in 2011 Mr. Olson, Thank you very much. It will sound as a joke, but it seems the Chilean Government it's going to extend again this year the Daylight Saving Time and there's also a modification for the beginning of DST from October to August. And everything is on a mere experimental guise that will be evaluated in March 2012. I'll send you the references and appropriate patches as soon as possible. Thanks for the information. A new version of the time zone package is due to go out tomorrow; we'll see how long it takes to get to computers in Chile.

Hi,
Due to a drought and as one of several actions to avoid a future electricity shortfall this year, Chile extends Daylight Saving Time till early April. According to media reports, this one-time change will take place on Saturday, April 2nd at 24:00 for America/Santiago and on Saturday, April 2nd at 22:00 for Pacific/Easter.
At the moment, there's no official decree available, but you can check the information at:
