Exactly how the survey will be conducted is not clear yet, but it probably will not be a fully fledged referendum.

An agenda for the Regional District of East Kootenay board of directors meeting scheduled for this coming Friday, 8 May 2026, has been published, along with agendas for committee meetings the previous day. At time of writing, there is no item relating to time zones on these agendas.

The board meets monthly, typically on the second Friday of each month, so its next meeting would be 12 June.
