Dear Arthur and Paul,
I would like to draw your attention to one of the names of the UTC+2 time
zone: Europe/Kiev . And suggest changing it to
Europe/Kyiv.
This name is derived from the name of Ukrainian capital “Êè¿â”. Its official transliteration(1) is “Kyiv” and not “Kiev”.
The transliteration “Kyiv” was approved by the Tenth United Nations Conference on Standardization of Geographical Names(2). This is a warranty of the campaign
KyivNotKiev launched by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine(3).
This is a very important issue for Ukrainians in establishing our national identity in times of an armed conflict and hybrid war by propaganda and misinformation. “To appreciate the significance of the “Kyiv vs. Kiev”
debate, one must first step back and view it in terms of the deep-rooted national identity crisis caused by centuries of Tsarist and Soviet russification.” (4)
It would make a huge difference if you considered this suggestion! And please let me know, if there is something else I should do to substantiate this proposal.
