Macquarie Island in the IANA time zone database is AQ and not Australia.
Macquarie island is part of Australia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macquarie_Island
In Wikipedia, not in the IANA time zone database.
ftp://ftp.iana.org/tz/data/zone.tab
AQ -5430+15857 Antarctica/Macquarie Macquarie Island Station, Macquarie Island
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macquarie_Island categorized as belonging to Tasmania, which in turn is given as part of Australia.
What is the reason to have Macquarie Island as AQ Antartica in the IANA time zone database?
Macquarie Island is politically Australian territory, but geographically on the Antarctic continent. I don't know if the 'ISO 3166 2-character country code' zone.tab refers to is supposed to reference the political or geographic code, but it at least seems consistent with respect to the Antarctic bases and islands.
I'm pretty sure it isn't on the Antarctic continent, neither on the continental shelf itself, nor the Antarctic plate. -- -=( Ian Abbott @ MEV Ltd. E-mail: <abbotti@mev.co.uk> )=- -=( Tel: +44 (0)161 477 1898 FAX: +44 (0)161 718 3587 )=-
