I'm forwarding this message from Matt Milliss, who is not on the time zone mailing list. Those of you who are on the time zone mailing list, please direct replies appropriately. I tried five recent versions of "australasia" and they all yielded a March 30 transition in 2008. All recent versions of "backward" link "Australia/West" to "Australia/Perth." It seems as if this is a twiki.org challenge rather than a tz database challenge. According to the tz database (http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/xtra/tzdate?tz=Australia/West) daylight savings in the Australia/West timezone ended on 11th March 2008 but the actual end date is 30th March 2008. Cheers Matt Milliss

Chile extends DST due to drought

The Associated Press reports that yesterday Chile announced it will extend DST this year due to a drought, until the last Saturday in March. Does anybody have details? Time zone database update suggestion

José Miguel Garrido's electronic mail and work with zdump made me realize that since... the Chilean transitions are supposed to happen at the end of Saturday, March 29 (24:00 in America/Santiago, 22:00 in Pacific/Easter) the Chilean transitions are specified using Universal time and it's already March 30 in Univeral time near the end of March 29 in Chile ...that March 30 is what needs to appear in the file. So, with providence, the final proposed Chile change (with commentary added).
