Hi Folks In a recent discussion on the NCUC list we saw a serious backlash to the arbitrary use of FACEBOOK for the ICANN Fellows. This was retracted but its illustrative of the lack of awareness of issues facing many folks that don't have access to Facebook or have serious concerns about Facebook rules I am adding to this discussion an article on THE VERGE on Facebook issues https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/27/16050446/facebook-net-neutrality-digital-... Hi folks: The issue of Facebook is a valid one. A few questions come to mind: 1. Does ICANN have a tool that can be used with the "positive" features Facebook has? 2. Does ICANN have available an "open source" or low-cost virusl environment that can add members in a private setting to sustain conversations and share files in a timely manner? 3. Is there a tool available that can view on most devices and operating systems? Even integrate 'live conversations' similar to "messenger & Facebook Live". All the articles on Facebook rules di have its "pros" and "cons" which takes us back to "one universal solution" or at leadt closest to it! Just my 2cents to try and keep the discussion going! Hi, 1. Is there a way to see the concerns in the conversation NCUC thread re "the arbitrary use of FACEBOOK for the ICANN Fellows"? 2. Is it within our mandate as TTF to consider, discuss and advise? 3. I don't quite understand how the article relates to anything of ICANN or the ICANN Fellows. 4. Specific to the article issues of Internet access, Internet literacy which are the actual challenges related to the Facebook Free Basics on-ramp, they may seem better tackled by another I* organisation. Hi Jason The article isn't relevant to the Fellowship program per say but it's an op piece worth sharing. As to the Fellowship the discussion started with some Fellows complaining about he arbitrariness of the decision to use Facebook. The general view in the NCUC list made mention of the lack of access to Facebook in certain countries and the platform in general . I suggested we at the TTF we look at the concerns and suggest alternatives G Glenn McKnight mcknight.glenn@gmail.com skype gmcknight twitter gmcknight 289-830 6259 . SO: Actually I think the concern was about making Facebook being a compulsory requirement for fellows and that has been addressed. I don't think there is an alternative social media platform that we can/should recommend with A MUST clause for fellows or any other stakeholder group in ICANN.
