As the person who actually created the At-Large Skype chat (and has long since moved on) I strongly recommend Signal.
Open Source, free of cost, true end-to-end encryption, and unlike some others that claim E2E does not keep connection data long enough for acquisition by governments.
Don't take my word for it, check out any review.
