Re: [lac-discuss-es] [lac-discuss-en] [ALAC] Twitter and the Users Voice
I have always felt that the most of LACRALO do not make the connection between their use of and access to the internet and the policies of ICANN. This is more than likely the reason why there is so little participation. Certainly in the Caribbean the people who pay persistent attention the policies of ICANN are in the minority, and a tiny one at that. We have to find a way to show (in plain language) how the policies of ICANN affect positively or negatively management and access to the internet from a Latin American/Caribbean perspective. My two cents Lance -----Original Message----- From: lac-discuss-en-bounces@atlarge-lists.icann.org [mailto:lac-discuss-en-bounces@atlarge-lists.icann.org] On Behalf Of Andres Piazza Sent: Tuesday, February 17, 2009 2:55 PM To: 'Carlton Samuels'; 'Andres Piazza' Cc: lac-discuss-en@atlarge-lists.icann.org; lac-discuss-es@atlarge-lists.icann.org; alac@atlarge-lists.icann.org Subject: Re: [lac-discuss-en] [ALAC] Twitter and the Users Voice Dear Carlton, Once again agree with you. But businneses are used to response to social pressure. In this case, Go Daddy did it and in two days all the domains were restored. Representing individual users is raising a voice that, today, an anarchic bunch of Twitter users did and we were out of that. Our post is for them to do some outreach and make them know about the possibility to ask for ALAC-Ralo´s support. In this regard and assuming ICANN is connected, Twitter or other social media could be additional tools for our use in communicating with ICANN. This is not to say some useful tools don't already exist. Some are hosted by ICANN itself! There are entire blogs dedicated to ICANN issues. Ditto wikis. Even these LACRALO email discussion lists qualify! Unfortunately, not enough of us from LACRALO take the time to connect and comment on issues that would be of interest to ordinary users. And even with comments, ICANN does not have a strong track record of responding to social pressure. This is not to say we should despair. For it appears ICANN tends to be an equal opportunist for non-responsiveness, as evidenced by the recently published gripes of the United States Government.
