Re: [lac-discuss-en] Informe sobre la Participación en el Taller de Incorporación del NomCom durante ICANN81
Complementing Humberto’s report, that I appreciate. We also had a Recommendation session with members of 2024 NOMCOM Recommendations Committee and 2025 NOMCOM. This good practices from NOMCOM ( for more than 10 years now) now is what we expected from the Continuous Improvement Program for each AC/SO and its different ”constituencies” as LACRALO. For NOMCOM, an internal committee gets relevant considerations about the process during the term at NOMCOM and then meets to discuss recommendations for the next NOMCOM, to improve the process in all ways possible. This exercise could be done internally at LACRALO in a special meeting at the beginning of the year to debate what we could improve to be more efficient, inclusive, interesting…. My 2 cts. As an ALAC delegate representing LACRALO, I had the opportunity to get involved in key activities that will strengthen our contribution to ICANN processes. Summary of the NomCom Onboarding Workshop (November 8, 9, and 10, 2024) Day 1: Fundamentals and Procedures The first day focused on understanding the responsibilities and procedures of the NomCom. The importance of confidentiality and respect for the process was emphasized, highlighting the need to avoid “verbal slips” and maintain a professional code of conduct that preserves the integrity of the committee. Day 2: Subcommittee Formation and Unconscious Bias Training Members select the subcommittees they will serve on, including: Interview Questions, Scoping, Assessment, Interviews, and Recommendations. Additionally, we receive unconscious bias training from an outside expert to be aware of the biases inherent in the selection process and ensure more objective decisions. Day 3: Inclusive Leadership and Keynote Presentations The final day was dedicated to inclusive leadership training, exploring different leadership styles applicable to our subcommittees. Although the session was largely theoretical, it highlighted the importance of motivating members and fostering positive dynamics. We concluded with presentations from PTI Board Directors, Jonathan Zuck, ALAC Chair, and Claire Craig, ALAC Member, who shared valuable insights for our work. Next Steps We will continue our work virtually in the coming weeks. The next in-person meeting of the NomCom is scheduled for ICANN82. I appreciate the opportunity to represent LACRALO in this important committee and look forward to contributing to strengthening our participation in ICANN processes. Finally, I would like to thank Glenn McKnight (from NARALO, who is also in NOMCOM) for providing me with his meeting notes, which, along with my own, helped in part to prepare this brief report. I regret that I cannot go into more in-depth topics, given the special nature of NOMCOM's work.
