LACNIC informó hoy que al haber alcanzado la cota de 4.194.302 direcciones IPv4 en su stock, comienzan a regir políticas restrictivas para la entrega de recursos de Internet en el continente, que en la práctica significan el agotamiento de las direcciones de IPv4 para los operadores de redes en América Latina y el Caribe. LACNIC reported that its pool of available IPv4 addresses reached the 4.194.302 mark, and that this has triggered stricter Internet resource assignment policies for the continent. In practice, this means that IPv4 addresses are now exhausted for Latin American and Caribbean operators. "This is an historic event; the fact that it was anticipated and announced doesn't make it any less significant," said Raúl Echeberría, LACNIC's CEO. Colegas, otro tema relevante en la conjunción tecnología/sociedad es la estabilidad, seguridad y robustez del sistema de nombres de dominio (DNS). ICANN ha realizado una serie de tareas sucesivas para promover estas tres conductas. En este momento, en el anuncio anexo, pueden Uds. ver una actividad esencial, la creación de un Marco de Administración de Riesgos para el DNS, a nivel del Board. Los documentos que se señalan aquí son de gran importancia e interés. En particular atraigo su atención a la definición del alcance de las responsabilidades de los distintos actores, que puede ser objeto de controversia y por ello de comentarios en los foros señalados ahí mismo. Colegas, entre los temas a los que hemos prestado atención recientemente está el de las colisiones de nombres de dominio, objeto del reporte anexo/incluiído aquí. Las colisiones a que este estudio se refiere pueden ocurrir cuando un nuevo gTLD coincida con nombres de primer nivel que se usan en redes internas (LAN sobre todo) en compañías, universidades, etc. Por lo tanto representan un riesgo potencial para los usuarios de Internet que puede aparecer de maneras inesperadas. De allí a su vez la importancia de las medidas de mitigación que aparecen en el estudio. Sus opiniones y las de las organizaciones en las que Uds. trabajan son de la mayor importancia.
